Fallen Royals Trilogy - S. Massery

As a kid, she crushed my dreams to dust.

She tore both of our families apart with one confession, ending any chance of happiness for either of us and setting off a ripple effect of chaos.

Now she’s back as the new girl in school, and she doesn’t suspect the war that’s coming. She doesn’t realize the anger I’ve been harboring.

I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to ruin her life, and it’s finally here.

Because even traitors sleep—and I’m going to make sure she only dreams of me.

Then I’m going to destroy her.

I am a sucker for (high school) bully romance. I love them for the same reason I love rockstar romance, it is just so unbelievable to me that I become intoxicated, addicted to the writing, the angst, the "lifestyle." I think I'm drawn in because something like this never happened to me, could never happen to me, and so I secretly want it in a twisted way. That is how I felt reading about Caleb and Margo story. Their history was so deep and they were ingrained in one another's lives more than they believed possible. They were childhood friends ripped apart by tragedy out of their control. I LOVE dual POV (even if in the first book it's really mostly Margo). Seeing inside each of their heads helps the reader understand motive, which is a driving force for actions in dark romance books like this.

The push and pull in their relationship throughout the trilogy kept me super entertained as well as very on edge. Their chemistry was off the charts, some of the best, and I enjoyed the possessiveness these two had over one another. They were made for each other and even through all the hurt and the hate they always found their way back together. Wicked Dreams (1) has such an amazing build up. I devoured this book, unable to sleep until I finished it. The back and forth was so sexy and the sensual acts... The throat grabbing, the kissing the touching, IT WAS AMAZING. There is plenty of hurt and betrayal during the entire first book, which leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger for book two. Wicked Games (2) was heartbreaking, and yet beautiful. It's packed with more secrets, mystery and suspense, and my need for answers grew as I turned the pages. I was dying to know more of Caleb and Margo's childhood, to learn more about how their families are so intertwined, and to understand how they got to be where they are now. Some questions are answered and yet more remain. Wicked Promises (3) answered everything and ended happily but I did feel it had A LOT of information thrown at readers rather quickly and at some points I was kind of like "okay I want to skip ahead now." The ending was semi predictable or at least it was once readers learned who's voice Margo heard when she was taken. The bonus epilogue was super cute, tied everything up with a bow and overall I was just happy to see the characters I love finally get some peace. I liked that the books flowed into one another rather seamlessly and kept my attention from go. Caleb struggled to decide whether or not to let his feelings for Margo grow, and she was dealing with the same. I think if he wasn't such a massive jerk even after the first book, things would have been much more smooth for them.

As far as steam goes, OH MY. Sure, it wasn't totally pornographic but it gave readers just enough. I loved the build up, the teasing, the foreplay. It felt REAL which is why I think it's okay that the scenes themselves after were so satisfying. I don't care about the actual act of sex when I'm reading, I care about the connection the characters have and holy hell did these characters have A CONNECTION.

I also loved the supporting characters. The rest of the Golden Boys all piqued my interest, especially Theo, and I look forward to reading their stories next, which I believe is just one book each. Part of me hopes that the other books deal with less far fetched topics (i.e. no kidnapping, no attempted murder.. All that stuff..) but the other part of me is ALL for keeping that in because I love the way the boys come together to protect one another and who they love. It's such an interesting dynamic and I can't wait to see it unfold more.

While some scenes, and plot lines, were very dramatic I couldn't stop reading. It all felt so real and authentic, I felt the characters' emotions. Overall I'm really loving this series, I wish they were older like late college aged but if you can get over the fact they're in high school this trilogy is super fun (and hot) to read.

Rating: 4.5/5 Available on Kindle Unlimited and DEFINITELY worth the read.
