City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) - Cassandra Clare

Hi there! I have mixed emotions about The Mortal Instruments: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare… Still loved it but I do have a thing…

To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

I loved the book. In all honesty this series thus far has been very captivating and completely heart tugging. I love it and I really am happy I decided to start reading them. With that said, this book was supposed to be the last installment of the series, I found that out of the inside cover of my book… And it would have been a GREAT ending. A happy and loving ending but really only for Clary and Jace… Everyone else has loose ends that still need to be answered which I assume is why she continued the book series and made another 3 books? I really enjoyed this book though, it had me at the edge of my seat and I finished it so quickly. I’m taking my time with book 4 because, well 1) I feel like the series already ended with book 3 and 2) SPOILER ALERT Jace is acting really funky in book 4 and I’m just not having that right now.

Again the characters are great in book 3 and I love all the Luke scenes throughout. He’s the perfect father figure for Clary and even for Jace or Simon! There are huge surprises and plot twists in this book that I didn’t expect but they all needed to happen. I guess because I didn’t know it was supposed to be the conclusion I didn’t realize Clare needed to tie up some things for Clary. Also, the more I read the more I realize I have an unnatural want to take Latin… I highlight as many Latin phrases I catch and they literally hold my attention for a solid few seconds. I appreciate her use of the Latin to show how old and ancient the Shadowhunters really are. Brava Cassandra Clare!

Captivating, addicting and heart breaking!
Rating: 9.9/10

I bought my copy on Amazon
