City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) - Cassandra Clare

I wasn’t lying when I said Jace stole my heart. In The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, Cassandra Clare really showed how deep love could go.

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Yet another amazing book. I thought the first book was outstanding but this one blew my mind. I highlighted my favorite quotes again and found 95% of them were Jace while the other 5% were a mix of Luke and Simon. The story is another great one, perfect for anyone who loves fantasy! I also really like the use of Latin and demonology. You can look up a lot of the demons AND she translated the Latin terms for us readers in the book. It would usually be Jace or Alec explaining the meaning to Clary.

I feel like Luke really shown through in this book and we got to learn more about how he views the world and his life. I can’t wait for the next book to come in the mail and I can read more! Also Magnus Bane had a much bigger role in this second book of the series, so if you liked his wit and humor, this book will be great for you! We also got to meet Robert and Maryse Lightwood, the parents of Alec and Isabelle. We don’t get too much out of Robert but Maryse is a major role and to be honest, I have quite negative feelings about her. We also get a look into who Jace is even further and we explore what makes him tick. It makes the reader sad, anxious, and on the edge of their seat praying that Jace and Clary figure things out. AND SIMON. AH, JUST WAIT. THERE, THAT’S A PLOT TWIST FOR YOU!

Overall I’m thrilled with this series so far and I hope you all love these books as much as I do! I can't wait for this movie to come out (hopefully sometime next year) and we get an even better visual. I love Jamie Campbell Bower so this is just very exciting for me!

Addictive, emotional, and a real page-turner!
Rating: 10/10 again
