Fourth Wing (Empyrean, #1) - Rebecca Yarros

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

"Fourth Wing" takes readers on an enchanting adventure through a world of magic, mystery, and captivating characters. With a fantastic female lead, Violet, and a mysterious male counterpart, Xaden, this fantasy novel weaves a vivid and entertaining plot that will leave readers spellbound.

In my opinion Violet, the female main character, steals the spotlight immediately with her relatable tone. From the very first page, readers will find themselves effortlessly connecting with her struggles and determination. Violet's authenticity and strength make her a remarkable protagonist, allowing readers to empathize with her and cheer her on throughout her journey. Her character development is beautifully portrayed, making her growth and resilience all the more satisfying to witness. By the end your heart has sank more times than you can count for this poor girl and all she’s had to go through.

Now Xaden, the male lead… Man, he exudes an air of intrigue that keeps readers bewitched from the moment he enters the narrative. His enigmatic nature and hidden depths make him a mystery waiting to be unraveled. As readers delve deeper into the story, they'll find themselves irresistibly drawn to Xaden, eager to uncover the secrets that lie within him, or maybe that’s just me and my love for the broody bad boy type! The chemistry between Violet and Xaden adds a layer of tension and excitement to the plot, and by the end I wasn’t sure if I wanted to slap him or kiss him. Honestly I’m still not sure…

Okay so plot of "Fourth Wing" is a delightful and unique story. The world-building is amazing, with vivid descriptions and details that transport readers into a realm filled with dragons, signets, and wonder. The author's ability to bring this fantastical setting to life is truly remarkable. The plot unfolds at THE perfect pace, keeping readers engaged and eager to turn each page, anxious to discover what awaits next.

Dragons and magical aspects play a significant role in the story, adding an extra layer of enchantment and fascination. Among the mystical creatures, Tairn, the large black dragon, and the little golden dragon, Andara, shine brightly. Andara's charm and endearing presence make her my absolute favorite, capturing my heart with her innocence and loyalty. Tairn’s sarcasm, and voice make him as irresistible as Caden, in the way he speaks bluntly and with years of knowledge and wisdom. These interactions make you feel like you’re in a world where anything feels possible.

Overall, "Fourth Wing" is a mesmerizing journey that will captivate readers with its AMAZING characters, ENTHRALLING plot, and enchanting fantasy setting. Violet's relatability and strength make her a protagonist to root for. The vivid world-building creates an immersive experience that will delight fantasy enthusiasts. With its seamless blend of adventure, emotions, and surprises, "The Fourth Wing" is a must-read for fans of captivating fantasy tales.
